The Skywalker Saga is officially over and it has given us plenty of grand epic emotional moments throughout the decades. Here is my top 10 favourite moments of the saga and this list might not be the same as yours and that’s perfectly okay. Stay tuned for my top 10 moments outside of the Skywalker saga.
10. Order 66
Execute order 66. One of the saddest moments in the entire Star Wars saga, the Jedi purge is extremely sad and even though we knew it was coming, George Lucas does a really good job of showing the devastation and the terror the Jedi felt as the clones turned against them. Obiwan being betrayed by Commander Cody and his pet lizard falling into the waters just adds to the drama. Long live the empire!
9.Duel of the Fates
Darth Maul VS Obiwan and Qui Gon is one of the most visually compelling and entertaining lightsaber fights in all of star wars. The music is terrific and Darth Maul is simply a badass with his double-bladed lightsaber, something we never saw in the original trilogy. Obiwan and Qui-Gon work together and try to defeat the Sith apprentice, but Maul manages to kill Qui-Gon (that lightsaber should have killed him instantly) who pledges Obiwan to train Anakin as a Jedi Knight. Best part of The Phantom Menace.
8.Rey catching the lightsaber in the snow
Two moments stand out to me in the force awakens. The “Chewie we’re home” moment in the falcon, and Rey catching the lightsaber in the snow. Would it have been better of a moment if Luke had caught it? Probably, but Rey catching it instead of Kylo Ren was a really nice surprise and it made for a beautiful fight in the snow as the resistance was ready to blow up Starkiller Base.
7. Snoke’s Demise (Throne room scene)
Darkness rises and light to meet it. This is one of my favourite lightsaber fights in all of Star Wars. It’s epic, surprising and has such an emotional weight to it. Kylo Ren igniting the saber beside Snoke and having Rey catch it is such a perfect moment, it gives me chills every time I watch it.
6. Luke’s force projection on Crait
The best scene and the greatest twist in the sequel trilogy, Luke’s force projection as he rejoins the fight against the first order on Crait is the greatest thing Luke Skywalker has ever done. I will never forget the feeling of finding out that Luke wasn’t actually there on that salt planet as he faces off against Kylo Ren. “Amazing. Every word of what you just said is wrong. The rebellion is reborn today. The war is just beginning. And I will not be the last Jedi.”
5. Do or do not there is no try (Yoda lifting the X-Wing)
Luminous beings are we not this crude matter! One of the best scenes in all of Star Wars is when Yoda teaches Luke about the force and helps him recover his X-Wing from the Degobah swamp. It just shows us how powerful the force is without even a laser sword. And Yoda is just awesome.
4.Darth Vader’s redemption (Throne room scene) and the battle of Endor
NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Let’s forget that line exists. Vader is confronted with the ultimate choice: saving his son or remain with the emperor, the man responsible for his evil transformation. This entire scene is where all of the Star Wars saga is heading and it’s so exciting to watch Luke and Vader fight one final time as Palpatine is taunting them. “Good… Good…” And the battle of Endor is so epic and you really feel like the entire Galaxy is depending on the rebels winning this fight.
3.Han Solo’s redemption (Battle of Yavin)
“YAHHOOOO! LET’S BLOW THIS THING AND GO HOME!” One of my favourite moments is when Han Solo comes back to save the day at the battle of Yavin. Luke is being targeted by Vader and he is about to be shot… just when the Millennium Falcon unexpectedly appears and Han Solo, the smuggler who kept reminding us “I’m in it for the money, sweetheart,” is back to save his friend and the galaxy. That’s what makes Han so great. Even though his neck on the line and he owes money to Jabba the Hutt, Han comes back to save the day and it’s one of the best and most satisfying moments ever.
2. No… I am your father
The greatest twist in movie history. This changed everything. Luke’s battle with Vader in Cloud City… leading to Darth Vader declaring that he is Luke’s father. It is such an amazing moment and Luke’s reaction feels so real and raw that still shocks people to this day. No… I am your father.
The greatest moment in the entire stories saga for me is Luke starring at the twin suns on his farm home of Tatoinne, dreaming for a better life among the stars. This scene is what I think about when I think of Star Wars. The John Williams music, the scenery and Luke’s desperation is simply movie magic.
