Rogue One Trailer Breakdown

Begun… the marketing of Rogue One has. The first trailer is here and it is awesome. We get a lot of the tone and story of the film without it giving to much away. It looks like it’s going to be the war film. Disney and Gareth Edwards has said that from the get-go and I couldn’t be more pumped.

I love how this trailer starts off with the music and we get a sense of who Felicity Jone’s character named Jyn Erso is. She’s a rebel and a flight risk. She doesn’t seem like one who takes orders. Her introduction in the trailer is fantastic. We’re told that Erso has been on her own since the age of 15 and that she is reckless, agressive and undisciplined. Her response to this is “This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.” A classic Han Solo line.

We get a flash of Mon Monthna who looks exactly like she did in the original trilogy. The actress looks terrific in the role and her inclusion in the story makes me wonder if we’ll see Princess Leia.

Everything looks like it did back in A New Hope. The Death Star, in which we get to see it’s completion looks menacing and huge. We saw a glimpse of it in the novel Tarkin and I am pretty sure that this film will develop his relationship with Vader more.

I’m still hoping to see The Emperor in this film even though the chances are slim. It’s a sure bet that we will see Vader be a badass and some people are speculating that that cloaked figure we saw is Vader but I don’t think so. I think it’s someone new that we haven’t seen before in the Star Wars universe and my money is on Mads Mikkelson. We also see The Emperor’s Imperial Guards.

The Star Destroyer look awesome and the AT-AT look more menacing than ever before. And the new Stormtroopers (as well as the old ones) look amazing. They seem like they mean business.

All the new characters look great. Ben Mindelson looks incredible however I don’t believe that he is Thrawn. I have to believe that if they decided to put Thrawn in it would be in his alien form with the blue skin. But he is an admiral that much is certain.

Forest Whitaker’s role still remains a mystery, but he seems like he fits right in this universe. He’s always been a great actor, and I’m looking forward to see what role he plays.

Donnie Yen looks like he’s going to be a badass warrior and it’s the first time in the Star Wars universe that we see a Samurai and he looks amazing. He looks like the sort of rebel you don’t want to mess with.

The movie looks and feels like it was made in 1977 (in a good way). And since this movie is how the rebels stole the Death Star plans, it’s going to be interesting to see how it all ties into A New Hope. I believe that the movie will end where A New Hope starts, where Darth Vader enters the ship in a cloud of smoke and Leia puts the plans in R2. Disney has been doing a stellar job with the marketing for Star Wars so far by not showing too much and this trailer was magnificent and Rogue One is still my most anticipated new release of 2016. What a great time to be a Star Wars fan.

Trailer Rating: A+

Most important questions:

Is Felicity Jones Rey’s mom?

Who is that cloathed figure?

Who is Ben Middelson playing?

Rogue One opens on December 16th, 2016.
