Well, after months of speculation, we finally have confirmation that all of the original cast including Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa), Anthony Daniels (Threepio) and Peter Maywhew (Chewbaca) are all returning for episode 7 along with a brand new cast!
The new cast consists of Andy Serkis (Gollum from The lord of the rings trilogy), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Adam Driver (from the show Girls), Oscar Isaac (from Drive and Inside LIewyn Davis) newcomer Daisy Ridley, Domhall Gleeson (Bill Weasley from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2) and Max Von Sydow (The Exorcist).
Regarding the casting decision for Star Wars episode 7, J.J. Abrams had this to say:
“We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
However there is still little known about the plot except that the story takes place 30 years after the events of Return of The Jedi (Duh).
This is fantastic news and bringing the original cast back is the first step in the right direction. This is what everyone wanted ever since the prequels we’re announced. I am so excited to see Harrison Ford and especially Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill back in these roles and where they’ll be at 30 years later. (Leia a Jedi perhaps?) Will they have 3 kids? Will Mara Jade be in the film as Luke’s wife? (She better be).
The new cast is also something to get excited about since they consists mostly of unknowns with the exception of Andy Serkis who is a perfect fit for this franchise whether he is doing a motion capture or a human character doesn’t matter it’s going to be great nonetheless.
There’s just one important name that they didn’t mention and it gets me worried that he won’t be in the movie. What happened to Billy Dee Williams as Lando? He’s got to be in this movie! Maybe he just hasn’t been announced yet…
Star Wars: Episode Vll stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Andy Serkis, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and Max von Sydow as of yet.
