Best and Worst of Kate Winslet

Due to Divergent opening in theaters this weekend, I thought it would be proper to pick the best and worst films of Kate Winslet who is without a doubt one of the best actresses working in Hollywood today  who is also a six time academy award nominee, winning once for best actress for The Reader.

She has done so many great movies in her career. There is Titanic, which she gave a fantastic performance alongside Leonardo Dicaprio which also launched her career. There is also Finding Neverland, which I wasn’t a very big fan of but she was still great in the movie. She also starred in smaller movies like Carnage which was pretty decent and Contagion. She also did another movie with Leonardo Dicaprio entitled Revolutionary Road which was great but also a little depressing at the same time since it realistically portrayed a couple’s love life and the problems that came along with it. Leonardo and Kate Winslet we’re both fantastic in the film and a pretty underrated movie in my opinion.

Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind which is in my top 20 favorite movies of all time. Even though her character is pretty despicable in the movie, she is fantastic and gives a great performance and she also had amazing chemistry with Jim Carrey. It also showed that Jim Carrey could actually be taken seriously and that he could deliver a great dramatic performance. Such a great movie!

But by far my absolute favorite, which is tied with Spotless Mind, is Titanic, which she starred alongside Leonardo Dicaprio and they’re chemistry is simply fantastic. Is the movie a bit cheesy and cliché at times? Sure. But the direction, the cinematogrophy, the special effects, the sweeping score, the sets, everything—comes together perfectly to make you feel like you are on the Titanic with Rose and Jack as well as sinking in the ocean along with the ship. Titanic also has one of the best and most suspensful finale’s ever.

Now for the worst. She has not been in many bad movies in her career but there is one film that cannot be ignored and that film is Movie 43 that came out in 2013 which is an atrocity of cinema. The film is so painfully unfunny and is just filled with toilet humour and terrible poop jokes that are just awful to sit through. Anyone who is associated with this movie (and there are many, some of the actors include Hugh Jackmann, Elizabeth Banks, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, Halle Berry, Kristen Bell, Anna Ferris etc.) should be ashamed and should take that as a notice to never make something this crappy again. This movie is one of the worst movies of all time and to quote Richard Roepor from the Chicago Times, it truly is “the Citizen Kane of awful.”

Well, guys there you have it, the best and worst of Kate Winslet. Leave a comment below and let me know what your best and worst Kate Winslet film is.
