Best and Worst of Matt Damon

66ème Festival de Venise (Mostra)

Due to The Monuments Men being release this weekend, I thought it would be proper to do a best and worst of Matt Damon. Although the cast of Monuments Men is enormous and filled with talented people one of my favorite actors working today is probably Damon. He’s got enough charm, range, fighting skills and charisma to be one of the best action stars in the business working today.

It’s hard to pick for the best there are so many great ones that he was in. I could have gone with Saving Private Ryan which is one of the greatest war movies ever made or I could have also chose The Departed which is one of my favorite movies directed by Martin Scorsese.

Colin Sullivan (MATT DAMON) warns Costello (JACK NICHOLSON) that he is taking too many chances in Warner Bros. Pictures’ crime drama “The Departed.” PHOTOGRAPHS TO BE USED SOLELY FOR ADVERTISING, PROMOTION, PUBLICITY OR REVIEWS OF THIS SPECIFIC MOTION PICTURE AND TO REMAIN THE PROPERTY OF THE STUDIO. I could have gone with Saving Private Ryan which is one of the greatest war movies ever made or I could have also chose The Departed which is one of my favorite movies directed by Martin Scorsese. But in the end I’m going to pick The Bourne Identity which is the first instalment of the Bourne Franchise. The movie defined one of the most badass and also relatable heroes in action movies, Jason Bourne which was brilliantly portrayed by Matt Damon. Even though Bourne was a larger than life character Damon found a way to make him flawed and ultimately human. Bourne only wanted to find out what had happened to him after he suffered from amnesia. The movie was fast paced, well filmed and filled with intense action sequences that never stopped. To me the best of the Bourne franchise is the first one, followed by The Bourne Ultimatum and Supremacy.

MATT DAMON returns as the trained assassin Jason Bourne for the latest showdown in "The Bourne Ultimatum". Now, Bourne has only one objective: to go back to the beginning and find out who he was and who created him.

But by far his best is Good Will Hunting, which is phenomenal movie and one of my favorite movies of all time. His chemistry with Robin Williams who also gave one of the best performances of his career, was fantastic and the movie was so emotional and heart-warming. Love, love Good Will Hunting.

Now for worst. There aren’t a lot to choose from and that’s a sign of true talent. But one of the most disappointing and just dull movies that I have seen is Ocean’s Twelve. Coming off the success and greatness that was Ocean’s Eleven Ocean’s Twelve should have at least been entertaining to say the least. Man oh man, was it not. I barely remember the movie and that should be a sign of how bad it was. At least they made up for it in Ocean’s thirteen, which was a pretty good movie and one of the best performances from Al Pacino that he had given in years.

I think his performance in The Informant was really good. He defintely did not get enough recognition for this one.
